We are a non-profit, state-approved university in the center of Berlin. We offer different programs in business with various specializationsaccredited by the German Accreditation Council (Stiftung Akkreditierungsrat).

Each program focuses on real-life cases and career opportunities in international job markets.

The language of instruction in all study programs is English - the language at the leading edge of international business. Students who wish to improve their English language skills can prepare for their studies by attending an English Preparatory Year at BI.

Admissions

How to Apply

The application process for studying Architecture at Berlin International is straightforward. You can securely share your personal information through our online application platform. After receiving a confirmation email with a link, you can upload copies of the following documents:

 

  • Passport
  • High school diploma certificate with transcript (German Abitur, Fachabitur, or equivalent). If your diploma and transcript are in another language, please also submit an official English or German translation.
  • University certificate with transcript (if applicable). If your diploma and transcript are in another language, please also submit an official English or German translation.
  • English language test certificate (CEFR level B2 or higher)
  • Portfolio PDF with at least 10 works. See the guidelines here.

Dates and Application Deadlines

Start into Fall Semester 2025-26:

  • Application Period for International Students: 1st December 2024 – 30th June 2025
  • Application Period for EU Students: 1st December 2024 – 31st August 2025

New students may only start in the fall semester. Transfers into a higher academic semester may be possible in the spring semester, depending on the compatibility of previous studies with our curriculum. Berlin International offers courses on an annual basis.

Language Requirements

All programs are fully taught in English; therefore, proof of English language proficiency is required. German knowledge is not necessary.

If your English proficiency is at CEFR Level B2 or above, you may submit one of the following valid test scores:

  • TOEFL ITP: 543
  • TOEFL IBT: 74
  • IELTS (Academic): 6.0 overall
  • Cambridge FCE: B2
  • PTE Academic: 59
  • BI internal exam/BAU 'English Language Proficiency Exam': 60/100
  • IB Diploma: English A or B at HL or SL
  • German Abitur

Scores must have been earned within the last two years.

If you have not completed high school in a majority-English speaking country (USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand) or a bachelor's degree fully in English, an approved language exam is required for admission.


Preparatory School

If you do not yet meet CEFR Level B2, but fulfill other admission criteria, you can enroll in our English Preparatory School. This 1-year intensive program will help you achieve the necessary language skills before starting your degree.

Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

To qualify for our Bachelor’s programs in Architecture and Design, applicants need the German Abitur/Fachabitur or an equivalent qualification. Foreign qualifications must meet German standards, which vary by country. Common requirements are outlined here:

Four Admission Possibilities
  • Direct General Admission – Qualified for any undergraduate subject.
  • Direct Subject-Restricted Admission – Qualified for the specific subject area previously studied.
  • Subject-Restricted Admission with Preparatory Course – Additional studies required before starting undergraduate studies.
  • Additional Proof Required – Further qualifications needed to meet admission requirements.
Preparatory Course / Additional Studies

If your current qualifications don't meet German standards, you may need a preparatory course. There are two main options:

  • Option 1: Study Time Abroad – Complete the first year of an accredited bachelor’s degree in a similar field at a university outside Germany.
  • Option 2: Studienkolleg – A German university preparatory program, typically requiring German language proficiency. Learn more here.

Note: Admission is only possible for applicants who meet these requirements. Selection depends on faculty review and seat availability.
