When you ask a virtual assistant about the weather, use a chatbot to draft an email, or watch a self-driving car avoid a pedestrian, it may feel like pure technology. But behind every “smart” system, there is a hidden reality: people.
Millions of them. Artificial intelligence does not learn on its own. It learns from data, and that data must be collected, cleaned, labelled, reviewed, and corrected by human workers. Someone has to teach the algorithm what a cat is, whether a sentence makes sense, or where a stop sign appears.
Much of this work is outsourced through digital platforms to low-paid workers, often in the Global South. It is repetitive, invisible, and rarely acknowledged when we celebrate the latest AI breakthroughs.
In this webinar, we will pull back the curtain on the data pipeline and explore the hidden workforce that makes artificial intelligence possible.
